For Riders With Special Needs
Equine Assisted Activities also known as therapeutic horsemanship is designed to teach horsemanship to individuals with special needs. Goals include increasing functional life skills, improving cognitive and social skills, behavior skills, and builds self esteem. The benefits the horse can give the rider also include balance, motor control and coordination.
For individuals with sensory issues, the horse's movement can provide deep pressure with each step, providing a calming effect on the nervous system. For many individuals equine assisted activities can also decrease anxiety levels and increase emotional well being.
